The presidential security guards of the breakaway state of Somaliland have arrested 3 famous Somali journalists in Somaliland, for taking photographs from an opposition party flag (Kulmiye) which was erected on top of a building just the opposite of the Somaliland Presidential Palace.
Among the 3 arrested journalists are also 2 radio technicians who work with radio Hargeisa.
The three detained journalists are Mr. Mohammed Rashid Mahamoud Farah who is the Chief Editor of Saxafi News Paper, Mr. Mohamoud Abdi Jamac (Xuuto) the Chief Editor of Waaheen News Paper and lastly but not the least is Mr. Mohammed Saiid Abdullah (Xarago) the Chief Editor of Berberanws Website.
“As journalists we had never thought that taking photographs from a flag situated on top of a building will have impact on our duty, and we have read any sort of readings which say that journalists or any other group is prohibited to take photograph from that specific flag, and our arrest is illegitimate and we call this another modern style of oppressing the press” said the three journalists in one voice speaking to allvoices
The 3 journalists and the two technicians we for an hour kept at the Presidential Palace, and then afterwards they were droved to Haregisa central Jail, where they are up until now detained.
The journalists have said that the order of their arrest was straight order from the commander of the Somaliland Presidential guards Mr. Abuukar Sulub.
And so far there is no word from the authority of President Rayale pertaining about the arrest of the three journalists.
The Press family in Somaliland has strongly condemned the arrest of these journalists who have been arrested without any genuine fault they have committed against anybody, and termed the arrest of the journalists as illegal and violation against the Press Freedom.
Eventually the Press Family in Hargeisa has urged the government of President Rayale to involve in this awful issue, and release the Journalists.
